About Kathleen
I've accumulated tutoring experience since I was eleven years old, when I had to take a larger role in my siblings' homeschool education. Since then, I've had experience designing online courses for our homeschool, as well as tutoring outside the home. I currently work as an instructor for Mathnasium, a national tutoring franchise.
I am very passionate about teaching and enjoy finding different ways to explain concepts that may be considered difficult by beginners. I am very much enjoy English (my debut novel was published in 2018) and am more than willing to help with essay writing, creative writing, literature analysis, and grammar. I also enjoy tutoring math up to and including Algebra I.
I also have proficiency in, and enjoy helping with, Spanish and history.

My first session with a student, whether or not I have met them before, consists of assessing their comfort level with whatever subjects we're tackling. In the case of math, I would assess what learning structures they have in place, based on how they solve problems in or slightly below their skillset. In the case of reading, I would assess the level of the book(s) they are currently reading, their vocabulary level, and their overall reading comprehension (how well they retain the information that they read). In the case of writing, I would assess their grammar competency, their familiarity with different writing structures, and, again, their vocabulary level.
