About Brooke

I bring energy, passion, positivity, and patience to my students. I am a whiz at helping students organize chaos and prioritize demands so they can feel calm, in control, and get down to business to accomplish their goals.

I love to help people learn and feel great because they really understand something.

My first teaching job was for a year at a boarding school where I taught ESL, United States history, coached skiing, and was a student advisor. In addition, I was an admissions officer in charge of finding new students for the school. I then tutored freelance as well as with a tutoring company in Upstate New York. Later, I became a tutor for Schenectady City School District and tutored students in their homes, online, as well as in the Schenectady County Correctional Facility.

I have a Masters in Liberal Studies with a focus on English and History.

I have a Bachelor of Arts in Communications.

I have tutored grades 5-12 in Schenectady both In the Schenectady City School District.

I have tutored students freelance.

I taught one year (English as a Second Language and United States history) in the classroom.

I homeschooled my two sons from Grade 1 through Grade 12.

In my youth, I lived in Bangkok, Thailand for four and a half years and spoke intermediate Thai there.

I have traveled to many countries in Central and Southeast Asia, Europe, and the Middle East as well as to Brazil and Nicaragua.

My passion for learning, my education, and my training make it natural for me to communicate and empathize with my students as they find their way.

About the lesson

What will you consider "success" in your studies ?

For me, successful tutoring is based on a strong relationship which we create with open communication. To be of service to my students, it is important that we communicate clearly throughout the tutoring process and alter our strategies as we proceed so I can help my students go as far as they can.

I have worked with grades 5 through 12.

Find someone you think will be able to listen to you, is patient, has a sense of humor, and is willing to try different things to help you do well and succeed at what you want to achieve.

I helped a student succeed in getting his general equivalency diploma after he had failed twice. This was very gratifying for me and the student both.

I homeschooled my sons and watched them graduate and then go on to university.
