About Kristen
I teach students how to apply reading skills so they become stronger readers. I also show students how their reading strategies will play a role in their writing skills.
I absolutely love making connections with students. These connections are what get used to help build stronger readers and writers
As I was exiting the Marine Corps I learned that I had a passion for teaching others the knowledge I have. This has turned into teaching in the classroom where I have learned that I love seeing the light in children's eyes when they are truly understanding the information they are learning.
I am currently state certified and reading endorsed in the state of Florida. I have a B. S. in History from Excelsior College and an M.A.T. (Masters Degree in Teaching) from the University of South Florida. I am also a veteran of the United States Marine Corps of 13 years.

First I get to know the student and will give them a few reading "tests" to deteremine where to begin. I will also attempt to communicate with the student's teacher to get their input as well. Once I have deteremined where to begin with your student I will then begin working with them at their currently level to bring them up to grade level. If services are being requested as a supplement to the classroom I will work to bring them above grade level.
I have worked in a title 1 school for two years and also interned at both title 1 and magnet schools.
Make sure that you ate comfortable with the tutor. You want to be able to express when you don't understand something.
There isn't one event I can describe because every time I'm with a student I'm fond of it.
