About Emily

I recently graduated with a Bachelor's degree in English and won multiple writing awards throughout my time in college. I have tutored students both one-on-one and in group settings, large and small. Growing up, my mother was a high school teacher, and I developed a love for learning that I hope to build in my own students. I recognize that each student is different and requires a different approach to realize their potential, but I believe that writing well is something anyone can do!

I love writing and literary analysis, and I believe it's something anyone can do with the right mindset! My goal is to help students realize their ability to write and help them to love reading and writing as much as I do. What I love the most about tutoring students is when they realize that they're capable of so much more than they believed.

My first formal teaching job was as a Teaching Assistant for an educational summer program for middle school students in 2018.

I have a Bachelor's degree in English, as well as multiple writing awards and three years experience teaching and tutoring students through my college jobs. I also tutored classmates throughout high school, and mentored students through extracurricular activities.

For ACT Reading/Writing tutoring: I scored a 36 on the Reading section of the ACT, and a 34 on the writing.

For AP English Language/Literature: I scored a 5 on both of these exams.

About the lesson

Getting to know the student is the most important step. I spend time getting to know what the student's goals are, where the student is at in their writing abilities, and how to best help them realize their potential.

I have worked with middle, high school, and college students at all levels of writing ability.

Look for a tutor who meshes well with your learning style, and doesn't want to just write FOR you--hire someone who will help you develop your own writing abilities.

Think: how do I learn best? When have I walked out of a lesson feeling confident in what I learned, and what helped? Where am I having trouble, and where do I want to improve?

Details

I offer distance tutoring (online or over the phone) for 30-minute or one-hour sessions. I charge a rate of $20 for 30 minutes and $35 for one hour.
