About Lilly

I am a user experience design student with extensive expertise in writing. I have been writing poetry and short stories since I was in the fifth grade and it has been a lifelong passion of mine. I tutored younger students when I was attending grade school and I continue to help my peers with their college essays. My mother even asks me to edit her doctorate papers!

When it comes to working with students, I tend to be very patient and try to work with the student to figure out what method works best in helping them understand the material. For me, tutoring isn't "solving" the assignments, it's about understanding the process.

LinkedIn: (concealed information)

I've always been surrounded by educational professionals due to my mother's career, and if there's one thing I've learned from that time, it's that the student's ability in a course is not shaped primarily by their talent or knowledge in a subject, but by the teacher. I've seen students give up on subjects they otherwise would not have simply because the teacher wasn't right for them. It's my goal to prevent someone from giving up by giving them the opportunity to learn the material the way they need to learn it.

I have been tutoring students since I was in grade school. My mother was an elementary school teacher (who now works at the district level), so I spent a lot of time tutoring students at her school. I also did some private tutoring before moving to Washington state, but not for very long. I have worked as a lunch aide and have worked at a daycare center very recently.

My first goal when working with a student is to figure out what method works for them. My second goal is to employ whatever method of learning that works best for the student in hopes that they retain the information in the future, not just finish the assignment or pass the class.

I have worked primarily with elementary school students, though I do have some experience tutoring middle and high school students. Since I graduated high school in 2017, I can connect with high school students well.

Additionally, I have experience working with students with special needs. particularly those on the autistic spectrum. My mother was an English as a Second Language teacher, so I also have experience with students from different cultural backgrounds.

Find someone who is the right fit for you. Make sure they are willing to adapt to your needs and convey the material to you in a way that helps you retain information. More than anything, though, try to find someone who makes you WANT to learn the subject. Enjoying the subject and enjoying your time learning it is what I consider to be the most important part of being a student.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
First, you have to ask yourself if this request is reasonable. Is it something that they can accommodate or are they unable to fulfill this need? If the request is unreasonable, or the teacher seems to think it is, try coming up with a solution that works for both you and the teacher. The best way to come up with a solution that your teacher will agree with is to include them in the conversation; don't just tell them what you need from them, ask them what they need from you.
