About Janeen

As an undergraduate, I double majored in psychology and english, and have a wide variety of academic and work experiences. I have tutored kids all the way from preschool age up through high school seniors. I have also interned in two drastically different school environments, helped run a university yearbook, and work as a photographer as a side job. I have won awards for both creative and critical works of writing and published a paper in a journal as an undergraduate. I will work with you until you are able to succeed in all of your school projects!

I love having the opportunity to help students of all different kinds after spending many years learning how to be the best student I can possibly be. I'm excited to share what I have learned to help you reach your academic goals!

After internships in two distinct school environments and an extensive amount of time providing voluntary guidance to other undergraduate English students, I wanted to expand my repotoir by starting out in online tutoring as well.

In addition to completing a wide variety of AP or Dual Enrollment classes during high school, I dual majored in English and Psychology as an undergraduate, and have tutored both formally and informally with students from early elementary age to high school seniors. I am also a member of the national undergraduate psychology honors association and the national english honors association.

About the lesson

During our first meeting, I like to talk about how a student learns best and go from there. More often than not, a student is struggling because of how the have been taught the material, not because the material is too challenging for them. After the student explains why they think they are struggling and what they need help with, I like to to go through the concept or assignment step-by-step.

I have worked with students from early preschool age to seniors in high school. I have interned in both a wealthy private school and in a low-income failing school district. I am comfortable tutoring in multiple subjects, particularly at an elementary or middle school level. Though, my expertise largely lies in English, Psychology, and photography.

It's important to find the tutor which best fits your learning style. In English in particular, you need to find a tutor who is experienced in helping with the part of the subject you most struggle with. For example, if you need help with sentence structure or literary analysis, a tutor exclusively skilled in writing poetry is probably not the right person for you!

I spend my summers living and working at a full-time summer camp. In this program, as an arts and activity director, I have the pleasure of working with up to two hundred new kids every week. The opportunity to live and work in a beautiful natural space alongside a diverse group of kids is hands down, my favorite part of every year.
