About Zachary

If you need someone to help you get over that last hurdle, I'm your guy!

I graduated with an English Degree with a concentration in education. I have been on national TV as a competitor for the annual Scholastic Scrimmage competition, getting to the finals for the Pennsylvania leg of the competition.

I have been helping people of all ages, from kindergarten to college, improve reading, writing, and history skills.

I adapt to my students' needs; we go as fast or as slow as you need, and I will help you put in the work needed to get where you need to go.

I'm someone who loves watching people progress in real time. As someone who has had to overcome my fair share of physical and educational hurdles to get where I am now, I know how stressful it can be to not understand things right away, and how alone it can make you feel. I am here to try and make sure people get the support they need when they need it.

Unless my students are prospering I am not doing my job. I find nothing better than helping someone get it, like what happened to me with my own tutors.

I have always had an interest in helping others and sharing my passion with those who can benefit from it. I've been helping others since as long as I can remember, but didn't realize it was what I really wanted to do until I was an old man (22).

I graduated in 2019 with a degree in English, a minor in German, and a concentration in English Education. While working at the university, I spent time as an editor for the campus newspaper, helping students refine and perfect their essays in our Writer's Workshop, and worked as a tutor for the local Ready, Set, Read! program that saw me work with elementary-aged students struggling with reading proficiency.

I also was originally supposed to spend two years teaching English in the Peace Corps, and had passed preliminary placing exams and taken their approved ESL lessons before the program was suspended over the COVID-19 pandemic.

My first session is largely determinging what the student needs. Where are they struggling, getting to know them, and doing some basic preliminary work to get a gauge on where they are at compared to the work expected.

Then, while it obviously varies from student to student, I provide lessons and reviews of what they learned, try to answer questions or elaborate on things they may have learned that day, and work through questions with them to not only help them get the right answer, but to understand why it is right.

I have helped students who ranged from kindergarteners to college students.

I have assisted students in a variety of ways, from those who need general assistance to bring them up to the level of their peers, to those who need specialized attention to get a few key conepts nailed down and help them stand out from their class.

I have also worked in ESL environments, helping students get the basics of the English language.

Make sure your teacher knows what they're talking about, but also make sure that you find someone who is good for you.

Find someone who pushes you, but who doesn't leave you behind. While you can have fun in your lessons (something I do my best to do), it is important to get work done and progress. But make sure that, when you have successes, they're there for you and celebrate with you.
