About Carolyn
I have six years of teaching and tutoring experience, both in a large classroom setting and one on one. I specialize in college essay writing and have helped over 200 students write common application essays, coalition essays, and supplemental essays that stand out during the admissions process.
Additionally, I have worked with students aged 11-21 on school essays, book reports, grammar and punctuation, and other assignments.
I also have extensive experience with test preparation, including: SAT, SAT subject tests, ACT, TOEFL, and IELTS.
I will happily help any student achieve his or her goals!
I love seeing kids fall in love with reading! I also love the "Aha moment!" when students understand a difficult poem or passage.
I began teaching through Teach for America. I finished that program and moved on to tutoring and consulting.

First, I assess every student's individual needs. I ask questions regarding assignment, student grade level, student's interests (i.e. is reading a chore or do they find it enjoyable?), and what support they need. All of these questions will allow me to better help each student, especially over a long term relationship.
