About Shelby
I am a certified secondary education teacher with an emphasis history and English. I previously taught high school history and AP Psychology for four years, and currently teach middle school in Tuscaloosa. Although I mainly work with middle and high school students, I love reading and want to help students of all ages become more proficient in their reading skills. I also can help with writing skills or proofreading.
As a teacher, I love working with students and helping them succeed. I believe reading and writing are vital and always put an emphasis on those skills in my classroom.
My mother was an elementary school teacher and I always knew I wanted to be a teacher too. I have always loved reading and writing and knew that is what I wanted my concentration to be when I became a teacher.
I have a BS in Secondary Education Social Science from the University of Alabama, where I am also currently pursing a Masters in Education as well. I am going into my fifth year of teaching and I am also AP certified.

First of, I will ask the student and their parents about what they are working on in school, what they think they need the most help with, and how they feel like they learn best. I always think it is important to find out what level a student is at to accurately gauge where we need to start.
I have worked with students of all learning types. I have worked with AP students to IEP collaborative students and everyone in between.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
The advice I would give students to talk to their teachers woud be to not be nervous, that their teachers are there to help. I would also advice them to let their teachers know when they are struggling and not to wait until the last minute at the end of a grading period.
