About Melissa
Experienced 7-12 English teacher able to teach struggling students the THINKING that goes into writing paragraphs, and essays for various purposes, and audiences. Most teachers just assign writing without teaching students the thinking that goes into the sentences that construct paragraphs and essays. I am VERY effective in teaching students the processing required to be able to apply what they learn in all academic courses, and requirements. I am very effective in breaking things down from academic speech to regular conversation in a way that connects with teenagers, and adults that helps them gain confidence in their writing.

Assess what they need, and then determine what they have completed, or where they are stuck or confused. Then, find out the requirements of the assignment or task, and begin to break down the assignment and steps for the student. After that, I would model/show example, and then coach the student in trying the task. I would help the student through the entire process, and then offer a follow-up feedback session. After that, I would make myself available for any questions the student may have.
