About Kelsey

Hello! I provide efficient and effective tutoring for middle and high schoolers. Growing up, I was always expected to tutor my younger siblings, and throughout high school, I volunteered to tutor countless students after school. I keep my students engaged and have a breadth of experience tutoring in a variety of subjects.

Unlike many tutors who are years past grade school, I provide helpful tips on how to best overcome the obstacles unique to middle and high school students. Additionally, I am well-equipped to aid students with standardized test preparation, since the tests are fresh in my mind.

I currently attend the University of Chicago and am majoring in Physics, Molecular Engineering, and Creative Writing. I am proficient in a wide range of subjects, as I will have taken thirteen AP classes and have received top scores on all of my exams.

I have always loved learning, but schools (understandably) cannot teach to any one individual, so curriculums fail to account for all the unique perspectives in the classroom. Each student has a different way of seeing patterns and thinking about the world. Teaching is clearly most effective when the teacher frames information in a way that the student can best understand it-- seeing how students' personalities, perspectives, and learning styles differ is eye-opening.

About the lesson

I normally start by getting to know the student's learning style and how they approach assignments and problem-solving, normally using whatever materials they have been given in school.

I've worked with high-school students and elementary school students, many of whom were struggling with the material they were given in school.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
A student should know what they want to take away from the tutoring-- better grades, a deeper understanding of the material, success on assignments. Perhaps the student wants to establish a study schedule and work on time management. Many goals (both academic and organizational) overlap, but the student should understand his or her own motivations.

Standard pricing is around $30-50 dollars an hour of tutoring depending on the student's budget and how tailored the lesson plans need to be. Price will reflect outside time spent on preparing materials as well as breadth of material covered.
