About Kaylin

I began my love for education in college. As an undergraduate studying Psychology and Criminal Justice, I knew that I wanted to pursue graduate work to further my education and make an impact in the field. I obtained a Master's degree in Forensic Psychology immediately following my Bachelor's degree. I am a 5th year Doctorate of Psychology student now, studying Clinical Psychology. My doctoral project (dissertation) was completed in December 2018, and topic included treatment for adolscents with emotion dysregulation.

I have tutored children for the past 16 years in a variety of settings. I began volunteering with children in a low-income neighborhood elementary school across all subjects up to 4th grade. Then I privately tutored during college for a family with a child with ADHD, who needed help with 4th grade subjects (English, Math). During the coronavirus pandemic, I began tutoring for a family while their children completed schoolwork via Zoom. The children were in 2nd and 4th grade.

I began as a volunteer, but enjoyed the position so much that I began to hone my skills as a teacher of subjects that I have an affinity for, and began working individually with clients.

I have worked with children and adults as a tutor, babysitter, clinical and behavioral therapist for 13 years. I am a Doctorate of Psychology 5th year student and have defended my dissertation. I am an excellent writer, and enjoy teaching Math, History, and anything related to Psychology.

About the lesson

I like to first assess the student's strengths, abilities, and areas of growth by collaborarting with the student and/or parents as necessary. We then create a plan together to tackle the areas of growth and maximize success in areas where growth is not needed.

Children, Pre-teens, Teenagers, Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Children with ADHD, Adults with a variety of diagnoses (Bipolar, Personality Disorders, Major Depression, Anxiety)

Fit is the most important factor in learning. Relationships and bonds help people grow together. Find someone you are comfortable with and who looks for your strengths and abilities to capitalize and what you already know, rather than over-focusing on areas of growth.

I have been tutoring a first grader during the CoronaVirus pandemic and we were learning in his history textbook about different inventions and who created them. When he came to realize that he too had the power to create different machines and ideas, I began to use his creativity as a basis for all learning. For example, when teaching about Climate Change or Mathematics, we used examples of machines, inventions, etc. to help him conceptualize different ideas.
