About John

My name is John and I live in Long Beach, CA. I've been teaching Spanish for over 10 years and ESL (English as a Second Language) for over 6 years. I received my Bachelor's Degree in Spanish from California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) and my Master's Degree in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) from University of Southern California. I've previously taught at institutions such as CSULB, USC, UCLA, Los Angeles City College, and Golden West College.

I'm extremely dedicated to and passionate about teaching. I have taught learners from very diverse backgrounds and proficiency levels, including kids, teens, and adults. In a typical class of mine, you will have optimal opportunities to practice the target subject/language and classes are always fun, personalized and made just for you! I want all my students to get the most they can out of each class and the practice opportunities I offer outside of class.

I began tutoring Spanish when I moved to Long Beach, CA from Sacramento, CA and I fell in love with helping learners with their language skills. I began teaching at Cal State Long Beach as a Teaching Associate of Spanish and absolutely loved it from the moment I began teaching in the classroom. Soon after, I decided I wanted to teach both Spanish and ESL at the community college level. I absolutely love teaching and sharing knowledge with others.

I received my Bachelor's Degree in Spanish from California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) and my Master's Degree in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) from University of Southern California. I have experience with the AP Spanish Language Exam, College Essays, and College Applications. I've previously taught Spanish, ESL, Vocational Education, and GED/ HiSET Prep at institutions such as CSULB, USC, UCLA, Los Angeles City College, and Golden West College.

About the lesson

When we begin working together, I like to set up a fun, informal Needs Analysis session where I ask questions to get a sense of your learning needs, preferences, and goals. I also like for us to get to know each other a little bit and determine how we'd like to proceed with lessons.

I have worked with a wide array of students including kids, teens, and adults from diverse backgrounds, proficiency levels, and abiltiies. I am trained in serving learners with learning disabilities and I am fully committed to serving each student I work with to the best of my ability.

Individual Pricing:

$45 per hour, no prep required

$70 per hour, prep required (includes homework if desired)

Group Pricing:

2-3 students: $100 per hour

4-6 students: $200 per hour
