About Claire

I'm a multi-disciplinary writer with experience teaching ages 3-5, & 11-18. As a writing coach and teacher, I am encouraging and responsive to each individual student's learning style.

Since earning my BA in English Composition at Colorado State University, I've worked at the marketing agency Widefocus, applying writing and communications in a professional context. I gained education experience curriculum writer and outdoor education trip leader with No Barriers Youth.

I love working with young people to develop their writing skills, whether the goal is to feel more confident and expressive in English class, write an effective college admissions essay, or prepare for the ACT/SAT.

After so many years of learning about writing in groups at school, it can be confidence-building to work on writing one-on-one with an encouraging writing coach. That's me!

Kids are hilarious, inspiring, and challenging. I enjoy working with young people in a capacity related to English, writing, reading, poetry, fiction, songwriting. It's so much fun to help kids build confidence about their abilities as writers and readers. Further, tutoring is rewarding because I know students will go on to apply those skills in a broader context no matter their career path.

I got started working as an outdoor education trip leader, taking kids age 11-18 on backpacking trips in the Colorado Rockies. Recently, I decided to get back to teaching by becoming a tutor!

About the lesson

We design a plan together based on what the student knows works for them and what we figure out together works for them.

Sessions start with a chat to get to know the student and their goals. From there, we figure out what's holding the student back. I bring custom-designed exercises to each lesson depending on the student's needs.
