About Christine

As an avid reader, I fell into teaching initially so I could read and write all day long. Over the years, I have deepened my knowledge of grammar as well as a number of diverse books. Now, as a writer myself, I focus on literature in an entirely new way, delving into the intricate details of what makes writing interesting. The passion for my subject has always fueled me and I delight in helping others unlock the magical world of English.

About the lesson

My typical process runs as follows:

1. Get to know student and understand student's/parents' goals

2. Identify which skills to target first in reaching towards overall goal by setting minigoals

3. Build confidence in skills while bridging into new skills

4. Trouble shoot and correct

5. Practice with feedback

I have worked with the reluctant, the enthusiastic and the apathetic. Averaging around 80 students a year, I have probably taught at least 800, not to mention coaching or after school activities which has expanded my range. Many races and nationalities, speaking numerous languages have walked into my classroom and taught me a thing or two about life.

Find someone who you feel comfortable with and who you are willing to work with. Choose someone who speaks in a way you can understand- as in understand the meaning behind the words, not just the words that are said. Ultimately, find someone who challenges you and helps guide you through the uncomfortable. Learning is not about being comfortable; it's about stepping into new territories and mastering the unthinkable!

I have been reading the book A Long Walk to Water with my students. That book is sad but profound. They are very interested! Most recently when we had to stop, they begged me to read more. Of course, I conceded and we read the next chapter.
