About Steven

My training in linguistics (B.A., UCSB) provides me with a unique insight into the structure and grammar of a student's writing, and my degree in classical literatures (M.A., St. John's College) gives me a killer ability to hone a student's prose and narrative ability. All this combined with my years of tutoring experience makes me the ideal candidate for drastically improving your English competence.

I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics from UC Santa Barbara in 2016 and my Master of Arts in Eastern Classics from St. John's College of Santa Fe in 2017. I highly prize the value of my formal education, but my love for language and literature doesn't stop there! I am a voracious reader of the classics and have memorized several thousand lines of the best English poetry and prose, from Chaucer and Shakespeare to the King James Bible. My passion is excellence in the English language, and I think that shines through in both my academic background and the way I spend my free time.

About the lesson

I always take care to tailor my tutoring approach to the specific needs of my students. As I offer an array of services—from essay coaching to SAT/ACT prep and more—I have become adept at quickly analyzing a student's situation and geting them on the path to academic proficiency.

I tutor all ages and backgrounds, but the vast majority of my current client base is in high school or college. My specialty is getting these students to an advanced level of English proficiency.

You'll find many English tutors out there, but it's rare to find someone who is obsessed with their field of study. That's the person you want to hire.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
If you have a specific concern or goal, by all means voice it. However, it's also okay not to know precisely what you need improvement in. If you feel you need help in improving your skills in language arts but have trouble articulating what exactly it is you need, a good tutor will be able to figure it out for you.

My standard rate is $50 an hour, although I occasionally offer discounted rates for families experiencing financial difficulties. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you or your child needs a strong academic tutor but are discouraged by the price tag; I am always willing to discuss your specific needs.
