About Carolyn
I am very good at what I do because I have taught and tutored English for over thirty years. But I realize how difficult this subject can be for some people because I am still constantly learning. I'm trying to learn Italian right now and am struggling, so I know what it feels like to be frustrated.
I have taught in large public schools, a small private school, and I've been tutoring at Houston Community College for nine years.
The National Endowment for the Humanities awarded me grants to study abroad for six weeks in Italy, Germany, Poland, and the Czech Republic. I also sponsored American students at Oxford University in England for two summers.
I truly love anything having to do with reading and writing. It's so satisfying to work with students who think they have nothing to write about and to help them brainstorm and develop ideas into a wonderful essay. Helping students learn to communicate, either verbally or in writing, is rewarding because I can see how that knowledge gives them confidence to achieve whatever goals they have.
I have a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English Education and Speech Communication, graduating Magna Cum Laude. I've taught in public and private high schools for over thirty years, and I've been tutoring at a local community college for nine years.
