About Elizabeth

I am currently the only junior high English Language Arts teacher at my school, and I am bilingual in both English and Spanish. I have experience tutoring both English and Spanish at a collegiate and K-12 level due to my younger relatives and friends of the family. I have created my own curriculum to help me stay organized during the school shutdown due to COVID-19.

I enjoy helping students realize their true potential and seeing them succeed. I especially love helping students to learn how to analyze and understand the deeper meaning of novels, movies, and other media.

I first began teaching while I was a Spanish tutor at the university. I have also been consistently tutoring my younger siblings and cousins in multiple subjects from K-8th grade (however, once they've entered high school, I normally help them with English and Spansh).

I officially began teaching through Loyola Marymount University's PLACE program as a junior high English teacher.

I have a BA in both Theology and Spanish and my CBEST certification. I am currently working towards both my MA in Urban Education and Teacher Credentials. I will be taking the Single Subject CSET exam for English in July. I am also involved in a lot of professional development groups for English teachers and have access to many formats of learning.

About the lesson

It is important for me to first understand the learning style of my student and my student's support at home. I then converse with the student to see where the struggling points within the lesson are and work from there.

I have worked with students who are the Developing, Emerging, Proficient, and Exemplary level.

Don't be afraid or embarrassed to ask questions, we are hear to help you. Trust me, even though we may be teachers and tutors, we have all had questions about our subjects before.

During my 8th graders' graduation ceremony, I read to them the poem I wrote about them. Afterwards, many of my students came up to me and thanked me for their time in my classroom.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What exactly are you having a hard time understanding? Help us teachers and tutors to have a starting point. Even if you feel like you need help with "everything" and you don't understand "anything", the best step is always the first step.
