About Lillian

I am a recent High School Graduate who understands the college process as well as the challenges of AP and IB English courses, giving me an excellent insight into the needs of students. I have received 5's on both AP English exams, as well as scored in the 98th percentile on the SAT Reading portion, and received a departmental English award for my achievement in multiple high-level English classes. I typically tutor students in AP Literature and Composition, AP Language and Composition, IB Literature for Performance, and students preparing for the reading and writing section of their SAT. That being said, I will tutor High School and Middle School students in nearly any English class, and I am absolutely willing to read any book a student might need help with to further their tutoring at no extra cost. I currently take classes online through Harvard University, mainly centered around English and Writing, so my knowledge is continuously expanding.

I am extremely passionate about English, and I love to share that passion with others. I strongly enjoy discussing and teaching, especially in the subjects of writing and classical literature, which certainly come in handy around exam time.

About the lesson

When beginning tutoring, my first step is to discuss goals and points of weakness for the student, so that we can focus on what is needed without wasting time on areas the student has already mastered. From there, together we decide on an individual approach that best suits the student's learning style to ensure that tutoring doesn't have to result in frustration or failures, but rather the completion of goals.

Students looking to hire a tutor within English should consider what learning style works best for them, and what level of communication they might be able to have with a given teacher. English is an incredibly subjective subject, unlike something like math or science, so being comfortable with a teacher is paramount to the success of a student.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should consider where their area of weakness is, in order to better focus lessons with their teachers. They should also make attempts to complete their work to the best of their ability, before going over it with their tutor to understand what needs more work from the basis of their first attempts.
