About Jenasis

Hello,

I graduated from Brown University with a Bachelor of Arts in biology. I worked as a math and literacy tutor for 9 years in Rhode Island and Utah. I currently work as a Language and Culture Assistant in Madrid, Spain.

I love talking with my students and getting to know them, and it's also really fun identifying and developing their interests and talents!

I started volunteering as a tutor the Rippy Literacy Center when I was 12. I really enjoyed talking with the kids and helping them become more confident with their math/reading skills. I love working with my students, so I've continued to volunteer and work as a tutor for different organizations over the last several years.

Education

Senior at Brown University. Majoring in Biology. GPA: 3.85. Studied abroad in St. Petersburg, Russia (Summer 2018).

Work one-on-one with refugee youth grades K-12 in the home. Support the self-empowerment of refugee youth through academic tutoring and mentoring.

Rippy Literacy Center, Lehi, UT | 2012-2017, Winter 2018

Served as a lead math and reading tutor. Strengthened and improved the reading and math skills of elementary-aged children and lead students in daily curriculum activities.

Tutored adults with developmental disabilities in academic subjects, job-related skills, and hobbies.

Awakening Church Nursery Teacher, Providence, RI | June 2019 - Present

Teach Bible lessons, lead in prayer, and direct singing. Responsible for the general care and supervision of preschool age children.

About the lesson

It varies a bit with the subject matter and who I'm working with, but I try to gage what the student's interest are and which areas might need improvement and adapt to my student's natural strengths and interests. With younger kids especially, I've found that they learn better when the activities are fun and interesting, so I like to get a feel for what my students enjoy doing.

I have worked with K-12 students, refugee youth, and adults with developmental disabilities.
