About Aaron

I love connecting students to books they love! I enjoy seeing students finally "click" with a book and love talking about what makes that book important to them. This is the heart of literary analysis and critical thinking!

I'm a licensed 5-12 English teacher in Indiana and teach English 12 and Journalism at one of Indianapolis' highest rated schools for my day job.

Teaching has always been in my family for several generations. After trying other professions and finding them personally unfulfilling, I was able to transition to teaching and only regret not having done that sooner!

I have earned a Master's degree from Indiana Wesleyan University and have taught middle and high school English for over four years. I hold a teaching license from the state of Indiana to teach English grades 5-12.

About the lesson

My first step with a new student is to assess what their next steps might be. This may mean talking to parents or guardians or just seeing for myself with a conversation and a few short questions to find the student's current proficiency level.

After that, we can jump right in with homework help, essay writing and revision, or my favorite: literary analysis!

I suggest students find a tutor with whom they are comfortable. It's so important to be able to relate to your teacher and know that they are authentic. Teachers need to see you as more than a student, but a whole person capable of doing great things!

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Staying motivated is one of the hardest things for students. Being honest with yourself and your teacher about your personal motivation level is just as important as advocating for yourself and getting help with understanding the concepts being taught. Asking yourself and your teacher for help in doing the things that keep you emotionally and mentally healthy are every bit as important as asking for help studying for a test.
