About Amanda
I care about the whole student, and also understand what is needed to make learning effective, efficient and fun. I develop innovative ways of tackling hard-to-understand concepts, and get to know my students well enough to make what they are learning relevant to their lives.
I really love seeing students make progress and develop a sense of efficacy and confidence as they accomplish their goals.

I like to have an introductory call of 20 minutes to get to know the student (and parent/s) better. I like to assess the student's learning style and work with the student and parents to create learning goals. This free call is an opportunity to see if we are a good fit. Before the call ends, I offer what the next step would be and what is needed for the first tutoring session. I like to also help students think about how they will begin organizing their learning, and help them set up a good system within the first few sessions -- sometimes this takes a little experimenting. For the subject matter, I like to focus on one to three key ideas, and work with those, using many different methods to weave the learning into what students already know.
