About Ezekial
Above all I try to make the subject fun and comfortable for my students - even if sometimes we really dig into something tough, it's my job to find an intriguing and effective (if not intuitive) aproach for each unique person.
I enjoy communicating as well as collaboration. I am studying for a master's in language teaching. My teaching style is conversational and balanced; a mix of simplicity and theory with deference to both practical application and pedagogic theory.
I have always had a keen interest in language and I love to speak, read, and write in English, Spanish, German, and a little bit of Arabic!
I started tutoring with a refugee service organization as a volunteer in 2016, a really great experience and one which continues to inspire my passion and curiosity for language and communication.
I have worked as a professional tutor, ESL instructor, and reading coach. So far I have lived, worked, and studied in Germany, Ecuador, and Colombia (and the US). Next year I will be working as a language assistant at a secondary school in Spain.
I enjoy seeing my students achieve their goals and realize their potential. I learn something important from teaching every unique person.
A chance encounter near the end of a ~1,300 mile solo bicycle tour in 2016 led me to some volunteer work tutoring refugee students. That experience had a profound and lasting effect.
Since then I have resumed my studies to earn a masters in teaching, and have worked multiple tutoring and teaching jobs in different countries and with a varitey of students.

Get to know the student, understand their goals, their ability level/experience, and their learning style. Develop a plan together, provide methods, techniques, and material to help the student reach their potential.
I have worked mostly with students of refugee or immigrant background who are entering or are already in high school. I have also taught high school classes in Colombia, and have also worked as a reading coach for K-3 students in a coummunity center.
Find a teacher who you like talking to. One who will not only provide advice and instruction, but who will also listen, encourage, and help develop an active role in your own education and practice.
Recently I have reprised my role as the lead instructor for a summer prep-course for students with refugee background.
During a groupwork activity I mixed up the groups to keep the students working with peers who did not share a first language. Seeing students engage with their peers, even when they might normally be reluctant to participate in English, has been very fun and rewarding.
