About Kate
I got started teaching after I moved to Asia after college in 2011. I have always loved children and education, and I quickly became very passionate as a teacher.
I have a Bachelor's degree in International Studies from Marymount Manhattan College. I also have a 144 hour TESOL Certification, which trained me to teach English to speakers of other languages. My training allowed me to have teaching practice with both children and adults. At the various schools that I have worked at, I have gotten individual job training. Most recently, I received training at New York Language Center in Manhattan. These training sessions helped me learn more engaging activities and games for the classroom. They also enabled me to learn strategies for classroom management.

I like to assess my student's individual needs before the first lesson. I send out a tutoring survey to determine my student's needs, goals, and interests. Then I create a lesson plan to match my student's unique learning style.
I have worked extensively with children and adults.
I have experience teaching English as a second language, writing, phonics, spelling, and reading classes.
Students shouldn't be afraid to vocalize their individual needs and preferences. Students should speak up if they feel bored, unmotivated, or confused in the lessons.
For the past few months, I have been tutoring an elderly man how to read and write. Recently, he was able to master his long and short vowel sounds. He wrote his first independent paper and has developed a love for writing.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I don't think that they should think through before anything before talking to a teacher. They should feel comfortable enough with their teacher to speak to them about their needs.

Hello, my name is Yibo and I worked with Kate during coronavirus because school was closed. She is very nice. Would highly recommend her! Class work is very interesting. I learned a lot about animals ( it was my topic). Homework is fun. Sometimes I write about a prompt that I learned about in class. Sometimes I create my own story using the vocabulary words that we learned that day. Kate has a very cheerful personality. Very playful to! Thank you very much Kate!
She is friendly, flexible and on time all the time. We discuss which book to read and she prepared topics and lead the discussion. It helps me to read the book from different angle and be able to understand cultural differences. By reading paragraphs to her, she will correct my pronunciation, explain phases/words in short sentences. I really enjoy her classes.
My child was struggling with reading especially answering comprehension questions.
I found Ms.Kate St. Germain and I can tell that she is doing her job a great job... her lessons are both fun and efficient. My son is now enthusiastic about reading and is happier overall.
Her expertise has made him confident and well prepared for the Fountas and Pinnell assessment.
I am really impressed with the progress and the improvement that my son has made and continuously is being made in such a short period of time with her support in the background.
