I knew I was going to be a teacher since I was very young. I'm the oldest of six siblings and always loved helping my siblings with their homework!
I have been a teacher since 1998 in both regular and special education. I have a Master's Degree in Special Education with an additional endorsement as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired. My list of other certifications and training is long, and I'm happy to share my CV/resume with anyone that is interested.
My passion and focus is in the area of literacy: dyslexia support, reading, comprehension skills, and writing skills.

When I work with a new student I feel that it's very important to develop a sense of trust with them first. I do this by getting to know them, their interests, and their areas of need. I believe that it's important to monitor progress over time to show the student that their hard work and dedication is making a difference.
I have worked with students ages 3 years through high school. I have worked with students of every ability and believe strongly that finding a student's strengths and working from there is the best way to support their growth.
I would encourage anyone looking to hire a tutor to give that person at least a few sessions before deciding if it's a good fit in regards to teaching techniques and personality.
I have enjoyed the process of changing my typical in-person lessons to fully online with the closure of schools due to COVID-19. Though it has been challenging and time-consuming, it has helped me to grow immensely as a teacher!
