About Pearl

As a current Comparative Literature college student, I would like to provide my services to help anyone in need of help within the English/Literature subject. I hope to reach my dream of becoming a professor and AP English Literature teacher one day...hopefully helping students with their work leads me in the right direction!

I started tutoring in my junior year of high school. I really enjoyed being able to help students understand their work and found it encouraging to know that I was able to help in any way. I have always loved school and learning; tutoring helped me come to an understanding that I belong (and thrive) in a learning environment.

I am currently a second-year student at CSULB working towards my BA in Comparative World Literature. I've been interested in English and Literature all my life. I have also been tutoring students at a non-profit organization called Olive Crest on and off for about 3 years. Many people find my advice and guidance within the English and Literature subject helpful and detailed.

About the lesson

Students must contact me via email in order to book tutoring sessions. Students and/or the student's parents must provide a schedule that they would prefer. Most of my tutoring sessions will be through the app Zoom. I prefer to be emailed the material, that we will be working on during our session, ahead of time.

I have mainly worked with students ranging from primary to secondary school. However, many of my peers often seek my help and guidance with their English/Literature assignments. This includes essays and discussions.

I suggest looking for a teacher who is truly passionate about the subject that they are seeking to teach. Of course, being knowledgable in the subject is important but a passionate teacher is one who is able to distribute the information in many ways, in order to reach their students.

When I was still able to tutor in person, I had a slight doubt in my efforts to try and help the students that I would tutor. I was skeptical of myself wondering if I was even helping anyone. It was until I was on the last half hour of my shift, when one of the students I would often tutor came up to me and gave me a 'Thank You' card to thank me for being so helpful. It reassured me that I am able to reach out to students.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should think about specific questions to ask their teacher beforehand. If a student doesn't understand the reading, they should think about why and what about the reading is confusing to them. It provides a clear direction in the conversation your teacher will have with you.

I recommend her to everyone! Pearl was very detailed and was happy to explain anything I didn't understand. She really made the learning process fun and my papers really improved. I could tell that she loves to teach.
