About Victoria

I really like to focus on getting to know my student's interests, so that I am able to make the material relevant and interesting for them. I believe if they can make connections to the content, they will truly learn it and even develop an interest for a topic they otherwise weren't interested in.

I love seeing that "I got it" look on their face when they understand something they were struggling with. I student taught 4th grade earlier this year and seeing those looks fueled my teaching. I love to have interesting conversations with students and encourage them to "dive deeper" into their learning and make connections to their lives. In my experience, I have come to believe in the idea that not only am I here to teach students, but I am also here to learn from them.

A lot of my family members are involved in the teaching world. I got interested in teaching when I worked at a summer camp after my freshman year of college and loved it way more than I thought I would. I always loved school, learning, reading, and writing, so I thought it would be rewarding to pass that on to the next generation.

I have a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Northern Arizona University. I have experience interning in 2nd, 4th, and 6th grade. I did my student teaching with 4th grade, which I loved! I am currently working towards my Master's degree in Secondary English Education at UT Austin. I am also fluent in Spanish!

About the lesson

I like to start with a brief survey and conversation to get to know my student. This will help me to figure out what type of genres they like and what goals they want to work towards.
