About Susan
Harvard/Notre-Dame educated teacher, passionate about helping all learners to achieve their full potential through focus on humor, perseverance, and creative approaches to learning.
30+ years of classroom experience, from middle-school through college-level.
While I am most experienced in high school English and essay writing, I also have a passion for helping all people develop strong fundamental Math skills (through Algebra 1 and basic Geometry).
I hold a 7-12 ELA certification in Maine, but have also worked with charter schools up and down the East Coast. I am also a 3-time presenter at the national ASCD conference on integrating and assessing positive learning traits in all disciplines.

M.A. English, University of Notre Dame, 1986.

I like to spend 5-10 minutes just chatting with the student, to establish some sense of familiarity and ease. I like for them to be able to describe their own strengths, challenges, and goals for the tutoring sessions. The better they are at understanding their own learning style, the more productive sessions can be!
