About Elisa

My service is to a student from a student. I have experience with many of the new methods they are using to teach students and I understand that some of them can be frustrating. I've spent time working on strategies to understand what I teach. Finally, I know that what works for one student might not work for the next. Each student needs a slightly different approach and I'm ready to work with them to discover the best way they learn.

I also have informal experience working with kids, as well as helping teens with ADD work on their papers.

I enjoy the process of watching a student start to understand. I've developed a lot of patience and I'm ready to help the student in a way that will ensure that their understanding is long term and not just for one test.

I was homeschool in middle school with 3 other siblings. I often did their lesson plans with them. From there, I also worked with the tutors at my high school to help students with ADD write their papers.

All of my experience is, at this point, informal

About the lesson

I always like to use the first session with a student to go over what they are struggling with and whether it's a particular concept or an entire topic. I will also go over something they have mastered and how they mastered it to see what their learning style is. From here I will take what I can from that style to help them master this concept.

I've worked with kids, teens, and college students. All of this was informal.

I would say that in this subject and in any subject, you need a tutor that can listen, and to be aware that there is no "one size fits all" approach.

My best recent moment came from a spontaneous interaction at a cafe and it was helping a student with their paper. They had been, at the time, told by a teacher that they would fail the paper but they had a chance to fix it. I worked with the student to create an outline and get the paper rewritten. They can in a few days later happy to announce that they got their grade up to a B+.
