About Bailey

I understand that in order to be successful in adulthood, students must be allowed to be successful in childhood first.

I emphasize that not all lessons can be taught from simply reciting and regurgitating information, but that fun activities and regular brain breaks are necessary for success. I encourage my students to think outside the box, and try to find something they enjoy in every lesson I teach.

Aside from enjoying watching my students become successful, my favorite part of working with struggling kids is watching their sense of pride grow with each stride they take towards gaining additional knowledge and skills.

As adults, we do not often recall the emotional turmoil our academic struggles were able to stir up. I find that when a child simply increases their confidence, their ability and willingness to improve and grow rises exponentially, and I absolutely love being able to help a child realize their own unique skillset and infinite potential.

I am currently in my second year of working in an elementary school. I have worked in special education as well as general education. I currently teach a reading intervention class that provides higher intervention and additional strategies to help students having trouble reading at grade level. I currently provide intervention for students aged 2nd grade through 5th grade.

About the lesson

I like to begin the tutoring process by conducting a short interview with the student. This interview is designed to help me to discover what the student feels confident and proficient in, and what they feel they could use more help with. I also like to find out what the student likes and dislikes in order to differentiate my materials and maintain a learning style and environment that keeps the student engaged and smiling.

From there, I like to set up a schedule for each individual student. That schedule will contain an agenda that will illustrate what we will be doing on any particular day.

The work we do is gathered from multiple resources that follow common core and state standards, as well as reinforce skills that are currently being taught in elementary schools, using practice and differentiation.

I have worked with students of all elementary grade levels (2nd through 5th).

I have experience with Level 2 and Level 3 Social Communication students in special education (focus in autism), grades 3rd through 5th, and have experience with students with physical disabilities as well.

Currently, I work with students in general education elementary classes.

In order to be successful in your studies, you must show a willingness to learn and a willingness to change the way you think about things. With open minds, we will be able to change your struggles to achievements and have fun all the while.

Details

Generally, I charge an hourly rate of $18.00 per hour, although I am flexible depending on circumstances. An individual session must be at least 1 hour, and may not exceed 3 hours. I am willing to visit a student up to 6 hours a week, with a minimum of 2 hours a week.
