About Paxton

I am a practicing licensed professional engineer with years of experience in machine and product design. If you are interested in becoming an engineer, there is no better place for you to learn.

I enjoy teaching young engineers the key skills they will need to succeed. I often hear from colleagues that they missed important skills in school, and as a practicing engineer, I can help to guide you to the truly important lessons.

I started teaching in 2016 as the head of an engineering intern program.

- Bachelor of Science - Mechanical Engineering, Virginia Tech
- Licensed Professional Engineer - Machine Design and Materials
- 6 years of experience as an engineer in R&D and product design and development. I have designed products for companies like Becton Dickinson, Canon, Sierra Nevada Corporation, and more.

About the lesson

I like to start with a 10,000 ft view - what are your ultimate goals ? I think a good match between my experience and your goals is important.

Next - we can chat about what your particular tutoring needs are. That way I can ensure I have expertise in the area in which you need help.

I have typically worked with active engineering students, anywhere from rising sophomores to super-seniors. I typically work with them as summer or semester interns. There is quite a lot of learning to be done in these roles. I have served as a mentor for more than 5 interns over the years.

Think about what your goals are - would you like to become a design engineer? Manufacturing engineer? Aerospace engineer? If possible, find a tutor that has already achieved some of your career goals. Their way of thinking and experiences will help you to reach your goals faster.

The end of 2020. Let's forget about that year for a while :)

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Take an inventory of areas where you struggle. We may be able to help you identify a common thread. Perhaps you are struggling with thermodyanmics, and we can work through that. However, your core issue may be weak skills in dimensional analysis or advanced algebra - we can help to identify the root of the problem if we have data on the bigger picture.
