About Ricardo
My father was a drummer, he recorded and worked with the Jazz greats of the 1940s, 50s, and 60s. I beat on pots and pans is a little boy Until I received my first pair of bongos in 1959, when I 9yrs old. I first learned to play bongos and congas in the 5th, 6th and 7th grades in school. I received my first drum kit in 1963, when I was 13yrs old and got my first job with a working band in 1966, when I was 16yrs old. At the age of 18 I was hired to play drums with a Big Band that worked 5 nights a week in the Philadelphia area. In 1973, I moved to New York City and played drums with various bands. In 1980 I returned to Philadelphia and worked with Philadelphia R&B recording artist. 1984 I Majored in music on flute at CCP for two years. From 1985 Until the early 2000s I had my own band playing flute and Afro Cuban percussions. Ever since 2001 I have been playing drums at church. I also freelance on drums, percussions, or flute. I have given drum lessons at the Philadelphia Clef Club of Jazz and the performing Arts, Christian Union Church and at home. I have also taught flute at home.
