About Charlie

This is what I love to do more than anything else. The ability to share that love and to inspire others to create and refine their talents makes me think of when I first started and where that beginning has lead me.

Above anything else, I enjoy reading what others write. When I was an editor with a literary magazine, my favorite part of the job was receiving submissions and having the ability to read what has only ever been read by the writer. It's incredibly exciting and I hope to inspire others to do the same.

It began with a few young people in my community asking for advice once they learned about my education. I found a love for sharing my passion and wish to pass that on to others.

I graduated with honors with a bachelor's in creative writing, and will be getting my MFA next year. I am also published, and am working on publishing a book of short fiction later this year.

About the lesson

My main goal for establishing creative writing in someone's life as a possible future career or as a hobby, is to instill discipline. In creative writing, it is important to find inspiration, but waiting for that inspiration doesn't always provide a successful writing career. Even if a piece of fiction ends up in the recycling bin, that piece contributed towards personal improvement.

I have mostly worked with young people looking to begin writing, but have also worked closely with those who are already published and are simply looking for an outlet to refine their work.

If the teacher you're looking into expresses a distate for genre writing, I suggest you look elsewhere. I have had my fair share of teachers who look down on young adult fiction, mystery, science fiction, etc. They tend to have mostly condescending conversations pertaining to these areas and I don't find that thinking to be effective in the pursuit of creative writing.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I would suggest considering if an educator's teaching style fits with your learning style. As someone who struggles learning in a classroom environment, I find it empowering to have the ability to choose your teacher in this kind of setting.
