About Michael

I find that the best way for me to test my knowledge is to try to explain concepts to other people, and that is what I have my students do. As we get deeper into the material, I have them talk through what they are doing in each step to make sure that they don’t just know how to get the answer, but understand why that answer makes sense.

I also strongly believe in building “memory palaces” which essentially means creating many different connections between the material and real life examples. This helps students move away from thinking of that the material as words in a text book, and helps them conceptualize what they are learning relative to the world around them.

I have 1 year of tutoring experience

Pre-med student at UC Berkeley

Earned over a 98% overall grade in college chemistry

I realized that the best way for me to learn material is by teaching others, so I started hosting study groups for my classmates while in college, and have continued it through my Post-Bacc studies

Two years of college level chemistry, passed with at least a 96% in each class to date

About the lesson

Get to know where they are in their current class by going over recent homeworks and their syllabus, then spend a few minutes talking about where they are struggling to get a feel for what I should emphasize

Fellow classmates, people returning to school, current college students

Make sure you have a good connection with how they teach. Everyone learns in different ways so it may not always be a fit

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What's my ideal learning style and environment?

What materials can they give me to practice outside of class?

Mike is a great tutor, explains concepts understandably. Definitely takes his time. He comes highly recommended, and I second those sentiments. I got an A in chem 1 due, in no small part, to his explanations and diligent study.
