About Allison

I genuinely like learning and want to help others see the fun in learning/mastering a subject. Using my prior knowledge, organization and unique teaching methods, I plan to guide students toward achieving their academic goals.

I have just finished my undergraduate studies in Biochemistry/Sociology and I have cultivated a fairly diverse array of experiences. These experiences range from environmental clubs on campus to Latin dancing and scientific research. Additionally, I've had the opportunity to teach in each of these categories as I've progressed in my involvement with them. Further back, my first tutoring experiences originated in high school, where I tutored student athletes in all subjects.

I have a bachelor's degree in Biochemistry with a minor in Sociology from the University of Oklahoma. I was also a member of the Honors College and a recipient of the Scholarship for Academic Achievement. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact me via email!

About the lesson

When working with a new student, it is very important to me to gain a good understanding of their goals and then construct a clear and realistic plan to achieve those goals. For instance, an initial appointment would include a personable conversation wherein I try to extract information about the student, their most successful learning methods, their interests, and their study habits.

I have worked with a multitude of different students varying in age, subject, and learning styles.

When searching for a teacher in my main area of expertise (science/chemistry), I would advise students to find a teacher that they are compatible with. Of course, both students and teachers should posses a certain amount of adaptability due to the fact that individual students can learn very differently from one another. However, in the domains of math and science, a lot of students experience a healthy amount of frustration. For this reason, it is important to find a tutor that is both favored by the student and committed to finding a method that best ensures the success of the student.
