About Norma

Entering my University as a first-generation college student, I found that it was difficult not only for myself to acclimate to college-level courses, but my peers were struggling as well. After working as a peer tutor for three-plus years, I can attribute my success to engaging with students on a level in which they can understand and identifying their individual learning styles. After accomplishing this, I design a unique teaching program to target the most necessary objectives for academic success.

I love witnessing a student understand a subject. The brightness in their face when a difficult concept clicks and a light goes off in their head. That feeling of relief that assignments, quizzes, or tests won't be as tough as they were before.

About the lesson

First I identify their weaknesses of a subject and their time constraints for the week. I set the days that we can meet and tutor for around fifty minutes to an hour so that there is no information overload. Throughout the week I assess on a scale from one to five of how well the information is understood. Days before assessment tests, I focus on the material that is not fully understood.

Grades 6-12, college freshman, sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors. I have also worked with nontraditional students who are going back to school after a while.

If you're struggling, do not wait to ask for help. It's best to understand the subject matter early on so that when concepts build on each other, there is a reduction in confusion.
