About Andrew
I've been teaching cello for five years, and have had students as young as 3 years old, all the way to adult beginners picking up a cello for their first time. My time at the Cleveland Institute of Music gave me the tools to deliver practical, technical instruction. This, combined with my passion for helping cellists develop their own musical sensibilities allows me to guide cellists of any age toward their musical aims.
My favorite part of teaching is watching my students learn in real time! Music speaks to us in ways that aren't always obvious, so helping my students learn about what makes music so powerful and fascinating is the best part of what I do.
I started teaching during my undergraduate career at Cleveland School of the Arts, an audition-based high school program for young musicians in the greater Cleveland area. I currently teach at City Strings and Piano in Chicago.
I have a Bachelor's Degree in Cello Performance from the Cleveland Institute of Music. My teacher there was Dr. Melissa Kraut, a renowned cello pedagogue whose students include international competition winners.

When I start with a new student, I always want to try and understand their goals and progress on the instrument before we begin. When it comes to physically playing the cello, helping my students understand how the body works to facilitate healthy cello playing is one of my top priorities. Incorporating natural motions into cello playing is crucial to enjoyment and longevity.
All kinds! 3-year-olds to adults! I've worked with advanced students, one of whom matriculated to a cello performance program for a Bachelor's in Music, to complete beginners of all ages.
