JP has been great working with my son over the past year. With all the the COVID-19 shutdowns he seamlessly transitioned from in-person to virtual lessons. My son is playing and practicing even more than he used to. JP has also been very patient, as my son can often get distracted. Overall - it is a great experience for my son.

JP has taught my son (privately and also with a small group ensemble) for the past four years. My son has really enjoyed these lessons and has gotten so much from them! Not only because of JP’s expertise in playing cello but also because of his patience and flexibility with his methods of teaching. The rapport he’s established with my son has allowed him to teach in accord with my son’s personality and learning style. He always looks forward to his cello lessons!

Learning to play the cello from JP has been a positive and exhilarating experience! As a former professional musician and multi instrumentalist I am a pretty demanding student and JP has proven to be top notch in every aspect from music theory to didactic practice. Most importantly, JP’s unconditional positive regard for his students allows us to be fully human and inspires us to do our very best while accepting that there will be weeks when we fall short of our own expectations. We come away from each and every lesson with a smile and energized for our practice! May 6 was Teacher Appreciation Day and
I was inspired to give a shout out to Jacques-Pierre Malan (JP), my cello teacher who is really terrific. Having a teacher who is kind, patient, talented and understanding makes all the difference when you are starting out to learn something new.
JP is passionate about his work and about teaching. He works with each student as individuals based on their needs and circumstances. And he always brings warmth, ease and depth to all the lessons I have had with him. I always leave a lesson learning something new and having something to think about on a personal level. I feel like I am still evolving into a person I would like to be even at age 61 and that feels great.

I am a professional flutist, and have been a flute instructor for 25 years, now I am learning the cello. I find the teaching of Creativecello Studio excellent mainly because of the caliber of Jacques-Pierre's superb musicianship, and his overflowing enthusiasm.
Personally I find the cello quite difficult, yet with Jacques Pierre's kind encouragement, I am very motivated to practice despite my busy life.
I have taken lessons for 9 months now and my love of learning the cello just deepens. I am happy with my progress, and having been a Suzuki Flute instructor, I think the Suzuki pedagogy is brilliant. I'm just finishing Suzuki Book I for Cello, and feel good about it.
To record my pieces is a challenge, (because I am too much of a perfectionist), but I see that it is a very good way of learning to share my music-which is the whole point of playing. I am grateful for this way of teaching.
