About Isabelle

Hello! I am a PhD Student at UChicago for Biophysical Sciences, and I am a recent graduate from Brandeis University, with a Bachelors in Science for Biophysics. I recently completed a Fulbright Fellowship conducting biomaterial science research at Kyoto University, Japan.

I have various experiences in tutoring a variety of subjects including high school math, physics and chemistry, college physics and calculus, and English for non-English speakers. I am also an experienced PSAT/SAT tutor, and can help with applications from internships to scholarships to college admissions. I'm passionate about supporting higher education and leveling the academic playing field for students. I'm also passionate about encouraging highly driven and diverse students to pursue STEM.

I have tutored many high school students in areas such as physics, chemistry, pre-algebra, algrebra, calculus, trigonometry, geometry, statistics and more. I have also taught at 2 STEM non-profits, Girlstart and Bridge to Enter Advanced Mathemtics, for elementary and middle school students, respectively. At Brandeis University I was a Physics and Calculus peer tutor for first generation, low-income students. And during my study abroad semester in Osaka, Japan, I was an English tutor for Japanese college students at Osaka Gakuin University.

In addition to my teaching experiences, I have robust scientific research experiences. I worked at a biophysics lab at Brandeis University where I studied biological systems through physics modeling. Now I am at the Active Matter Lab at Kyoto University, studying swarm dynamics composed of cytoskeletal proteins from cells. I was also the Undergraduate Departmental Representative (UDR) for the Biophysics department at Brandeis University, and I was awarded the Outstanding UDR award for 2022-2023. I was also the co-founder and co-president of the Brandeis Physics Club.

I love working with kids and inspiring the youth, the way I was inspired at a young age to love science and math. I am confident I can connect with all my students and help meet their goals.

About the lesson

I will first assess your level of knowledge in the subject, and then we can work together to form a plan. We will consult together and determine your areas of support and set small goals to achieve a bigger goal. I am a patient and highly adaptable tutor, and I'm passionate about making science and math fun. Learning has always been fun for me and I hope to grow your interest in the topic of your choice.
