About Maria

I offer: I focus on professional remote ONLINE CLASSES/TUITION for GERMAN (I am a native speaker), mostly on job-related stuying (but had all ages/levels/learner types). Theoretically I help with ENGLISH for non-native speakers (part of my studies) -> mostly when you`d like someone who understands & can relate to your own foreign grammar/culture (if Spanish/Russian/German or any European language) -> I do speak a handful of languages & can make sense of common mistakes and differences in cases/syntax and expressions!

However, 96% of my students take German classes. And most of them are doing it for the job, so under the label of "Business German". I can help you with the integration into a new market or a German-speaking environment and have above-average insight into many industries (as of 2023 I work i.e. with student in finance/sales/account, design/architecture/clients, medical/sports/healthcare - but had many other constellations like engineering, linguistics, diverse area managers/ceo for relocation etc., too)

I did everything from "quick integration in some intensive days", "constant learning over a couple of months" to "managing a new position/company and keep improving together" or "relocation/preparing for citizenship change" with them. Whatever the deal ist, I`m confident I can help you feel more in line with what challenges you right now!

In my own life I worked in multinational teams with/for international clients a lot (teams worked in 10+ languages) for 1+ decades, so:

Services: German tuition, language classes, foreign languages, Business Language, Business German, regular classes, improvement of overall language knowlege, vocabulary, comprehension, grammar exercises, accent reduction, repeating and re-learning existing content/terminology (if that interests you, feel free to "bring your own" i.e. book or material, so we work through what you want to repeat...), listening abilities, extending vocabulary, focussing on specific use or terminology with German language (i.e. interviews, interview preparation, writing visa application and correcting letters, getting prepared for a trade fair/business contact, travelling to Germany, applying to a German institution/company, moving to a German speaking country, specialized interests in i.e. medical courses, reading academic texts etc.)

> It can also be fun to be meeting interesting people online this way. Many language learners are well-travelled themselves or well-versed in their own right. - And even if not, it`s oftentimes personal improvement or passion, which drives many of them, which is really a nice thing to be dealing with & shapes the interaction in a fine way :-)

But don´t worry if you feel you are a slow learner. Whatever step you take towards your goal is the right direction to be making progress :-)

Must have been when aged 8 and I helped out the teacher during afternoon classes and "overtook" the younger ones while she had to leave the classroom earlier.

Or when aged 14 and I taught the girl who could not make it to dancing class everything we had learnt without her, so she could join us in the next course, which we took together...

Or probably it was something else...?

I tutored and taught later during study time. I coached in Business settings for 6+ years, so bring a lot of experience in Business environments and in working with people in general.

Went back to teaching entirely online during Covid (taught a certain percentage of my time online ever since). Taught usually Business German, also higher up students, expats and travellers or professionals (usually US/UK, also multilingual professionals or people working with German companies but relocating or working remotely).

5,5 years of language related training and studies (translation and interpeting at a couple of prestigious institutions, I`m also certified) - and work experience.

Currently I tutor/give classes online between part-time and full-time.

About the lesson

I usually first offer a quick FREE meeting online i.e. on Skype (ca. 10-15 mins) to get to know each other, speak about expectations and give you the chance to check back on the "chemistry" beween us, without having to commit right away.

Then will ask, what your desired "rhythm" of taking classes should be (do you want intensive classes over a small period of time or are your goals longterm?), so we get the right pace for you: and you can book what you need!

My offer as of late 2023: 90mins either once or twice per week (so basically a s-size double class). You can go by 1x week (80EUR each or equivalent in USD) or 2x week (75EUR each or equivalent in USD). - There is also the option to agree on intensive weeks, if I have availability at that time. - And I worked on an idea to set up ongoing life classes online to a reduced price (for learners with prior knowledge, most likely in job/Business context...so feel free to ask about this one!

Finetprint/Conditions: My minimum commitment is usually 3 months, so there is a chance to have any progress! (talk to me about your plans, please!) Payment is due the latest the week before the lessons start to secure your spot. Cancellations after payment not possible. Agreed classes can be switched once per month 24+ hrs before class without paying on top. Any other need to be paid 50%. Missed classes and later cancellations need to be paid in full (that was the "fineprint" ;-))

I also offer Business German - I bring 10+ yrs of experience, so please feel free to chat with me about these if that is your choice! > Also options for interview preparation, if you already have a good German and only need to get prepared!

Usually I`d start with some exercises I would bring with me - then collect feedback, if the student feels alright with the tasks, speed and learning progress. i integrate lessons and ideas from diverse levels, so the overall knowledge can grow bit by bit. So, it is a personalized approach each time, directly geared towards each student.

All ages. Kids, young professionals (hospitality), abroad and online, returning students (already professionals), expats, people working with German companies or relocating. All levels A1-C1 (close to C2).

Pick someone you feel you want to work with - you will see them regularly and you won`t learn a thing, if you don´t have at least something you like about that person (someone, who you feel gives valid input, who you feel is kind and in whose classes you feel you`ve taken at least a tiny bit more knowlege with you when you`re finished than you had before - which is actually good enough in most cases ;-))

I am often fond of conversations I have with my students - or online events I can join or watch, if they have been recorded (on motivation, psychology, linguistic topics).

There`s a lot...

Usually I enjoy hearing about what drives them - and I`m happy to note their progress.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Basic kindness/cordiality: Please say Hi! Introduce yourself with a sentence, then add some formal/education/language related info.

The information will help the teacher to give you what you need, so it`s always good to provide some insights - but in a down to earth/informal way (good info: years of studies/other languages/motivation/goals/prior knowlege/what you have/had trouble with or are really good at/what is challenging for you...). Then trust that your teacher is "on your team" and working FOR YOU. It`s part of the job to WANT TO HELP THE STUDENT!
