About Mark
I teach electric bass, upright bass, and music theory (with a focus in jazz, rock, folk, blues, hiphop, and improvised music)
I have been a professional musician for a decade and I have been teaching throughout that process.
I have a Bachelors and Masters in Music (Jazz Performance) from Webster University.
I am currently an adjunct bass instructor and ensemble director at Washington University in St. Louis.

About the lesson

I begin with asking the student their goals, favorite music, and I try to get a realistic sense of their availble time for practice. After that initial step we work together defining goals and acheiving them.
My typical students are college age (Washington University students) but also have experience with Junior High and High School students.
Try out as many teachers that you have access to and take what you can from each. In college I would take trips to NYC to take individual lessons from musicians that I respected.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I think its healthy to make a Spotify Streaming playlist to establish their favorite music and think critically about why they are deciding to take lessons. What do you want your relationship with music to be?
