About Juan

My name is Juan Rajagopal. I am a first-year PhD student in Theoretical Physics at Oxford, conducting research in plasma physics for clean fusion energy. I am passionate about Maths and Physics, with two degrees: an MSci in Physics from Imperial and a BSc in Mathematics from the Open University.

I love to tutor, having tutored for the last four years in-person in West London and online. I am proud of my students, many of whom have massively improved and have achieved 8s or 9s in their Maths and Physics GCSEs.

About the lesson

My priority is for my students to gain a truly deep understanding of each topic. To this end, I like to split my lessons into a teaching section and a questions section to test understanding. The teaching-questions split varies from student to student is situational, depending on for example proximity to the exam season.

I adopt the "I do, we do, you do" approach when it comes to exam question practice. For example, for a student with low confidence in a certain topic, I will firstly solve a question in front of them, then we will do it together and finally I will let the student solve it alone. During the questions section of the lesson I emphasise how to gain all the marks and push my students into the grade-9 bracket of the exam candidates.

Many of my students like to spend half of each lesson on Maths and Physics, and I offer lessons durations ranging from 1 hour to 2 hours. I also set and mark homework ready for the next lesson. The first lesson is free – please contact me if you have any further questions!
