About Nancy

Motor City Youth Theatre and MCYT Adult Players offers theatre training to children and adults with all levels of experience.

We also specialize in a 100 hr Shakespeare workshop each year and have toured to three Detroit venues in addition to performances at Motor City Theatre.

Artistic Director, since 1990, and co-founder, Nancy Florkowski, is a retired public school special education and drama teacher, with advanced degrees in each area, and presently teaches at Wayne State University in the education department, specializing in Drama for Children.

Motor City Youth Theatre was created as part of my Masters degree project in Theatre for Children

About the lesson

All of our students are accepted as partners who work toward a completed end product. Team work is one of our major goals at MCYT.

MCYT students come from over 15 local communities and include children with widely diverse theatre experiences and backgrounds, including gifted and special needs students.

Nancy Florkowski, director/ owner of Motor City Theatre is an amazing person. She puts her all into teaching, embracing the talents of the kids and has always been fair to each child. I have 2 children that were taught under Nancy along with her husband Fred. Both Nancy and Fred have been teaching at the college level as well as the younger children for many years. Their experience, knowledge and passion for the arts is very obvious once you see them interact with the children. I would highly recommend Motor City Theatre to anyone who wants their children to thrive and have their talents nurtured. I have a daughter that is now pursuing a degree in Fine Arts at Western Michigan University and a son who is a senior in high school. He will be pursuing a field in the arts as well on the lines of film or professional gaming design. Motor City is where it all began for both my children and I am so grateful to Nancy and Fred that no words can express my appreciation!

Details

All of our training is done as workshops that lead to a final performance. Specialized classes, such as improvisation, are offered on occasion.

Participation fees for each workshop range in price from $4 to $6 per hour and are paid at the beginning of the workshop.
