About Laura Kay
Casting directors don't want to teach you, they want you to be ready. That's where I come in. As your coach, and as someone who has worked professionally in the field, I can help you refine techniques for stage, screen, voice-over and modeling.
Not a performer but looking to increase your skills in sales, confidence and other applications of public speaking? (I can help with that too!)
Whether you're looking to be a professional actor or speaker, want to try out acting as a hobby, or just want to feel more confident, empowered and outgoing in everyday life - these coaching sessions will help you.
I currently teach public speaking and performance at a local college, and have personally been in the entertainment business for over 20 years. In theatre I have served as an actor, director, producer, playwright and sound/light tech. In film I have worked as an actor, director, camera operator, cinematographer, producer and editor. As a voice actor I have enjoyed performing in radio theatre for over 8 years. As a model, my work has been seen in over 200 exhibitions around the world.
Each of these experiences has strengthened my foundation of performance, which I look forward to sharing with you.

I LOVE watching confidence and skill-sets build in everyone I work with. I have seen people with extreme anxiety disorders become some of my best speaking students. I have seen people who think acting is only for big stages find a home in film or voice work. I seen "non-performers" lose their veil of self-doubt and start living life with purpose.
With experience as a model, actor, director, producer, photgorapher, videographer and editor - let me share my skill sets with you.
Are you a model or actor looking for coaching AND you need headshots? Done.
Are you a voice actor without a reel? Let's record and I'll get you a demo!
Are you a film actor looking to improve your performance on the screen and need an acting reel to start with/to expand what you have? No sweat, I've got you.
While in college for my four year degree in Communication, majoring in film, video & media studies, I attended and graduated from Barbizon School of Acting and Modeling. I continued on with them as an assistant teacher until my undergraduate work had finished.
Upon earning my BA I move to S. Korea for a couple of years and did some intensive backpacking. Returning to the states in 2010, I started my studies in the Graduate School of Communication at Western Michigan University. My final thesis exemplified the power of using media and performance as a catalyst for social change. My final thesis project was to produce a play I had written with advisors to address the issues of lgbt teen bullying. That was the first show of what would later become Queer Theatre Kalamazoo.
Hard knocks training: I have worked on over 100 scripts through stage, film, and radio work, founded two theatre companies and one small film company. I also teach public speaking, advanced public speaking and interpersonal communications at Kalamazoo Valley Community College.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I always ask my students WHY they are here. Do not settle for broad answers such as "to improve my speaking" or "to be more outgoing" - what are the driving forces that have you seeking those things? What are the specifics you wish to achieve? What pleasure are you looking to derive, and what pain are you looking to avoid? We can help you sort out what's behind your motivation so you can truly get the most out of your time with us.
