About Maria
I received my B.A. with honors from the University of Southern California. At USC, I received numerous awards, traveled abroad, and was captain of the college dance team!
After USC, I moved to Boston to be a professional dancer and worked in Human Resources. Then, I was admitted to my dream Ph.D. program at Yale where I am currently writing a dissertation on the history of the Tijuana-San Diego border region. I have publications, worked with the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History and the Japanese American National Museum.
I am a first generation college graduate and Ph.D Student. I am Latinx. All to say: I have experience dealing with imposter syndrome across my career! Please contact me if you find yourself in the same boat, I am happy to be a resource to you!

From interior designers to medical assistants, I've helped people write their resume, cover letter, practice interviewing, and land the job!
From college history homework to scholarship applications, I offer students detailed feedback that helps them grow into better writers. I like to work directly with students to workshop their ideas into polished writing/final projects. I like to tailor my sessions to individual student needs, but I can offer general writing and reading advice that I teach in my undergraduate courses.
I work with undergraduates, but I am also available to high school students!
I am happy to be a resource on a specific question or work with you through the process of taking a project from start to finish.
I teach college level courses in History, Ethnic Studies, and Cultural Studies.
