About Chris
Hi there. I'm Chris. I have a BSc (Hons) in Mathematics and Computing, a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) and have been in education for over 30 years.
During my career, I have mostly taught in Y5 and Y6, but also have expereince in secondary school when I was an education adviser specialising in ICT and computer science. In my current school, I am a senior leader, responsible for Science and Technology and STEM. As well as having expertise in technical subjects, I am also passionate about English, music and the creative arts.
When teaching in upper KS2, one of the most important tasks is to prepare children for their transition into high school, especially with regard to any academic areas where they may be falling behind. This is especially true with English and mathematics, the essential foundations for learning. If your child is in this situation, I can help them develop the confidence, knowledge and skills to overcome their difficulties so that they can progress with their learning. And for more able learners, I have years of experience in challenging high-ability pupils to achieve higher standards.
To enable the children in my care to learn effectively, I use a range of classroom management strategies. My pupils are always focused on their tasks but also feel relaxed and happy during their time with me. I am always kind, positive and supportive. I strive to make learning enjoyable. The activities and topics in my class are authentic, topical and relevant to the children.
When I am not teaching, I write fantasy novels, play bass guitar in a cover band and am a foster carer for the local authority.
