About Emilia

I am an experienced Diploma qualified teacher. I am also CELTA (Cambridge Examination in English for Language Teachers) qualified. I teach English as an additional language and Portuguese for children and adults. I am passionate about education, and I have more than 5 years experience in teaching. I have taught in Brazil and in England as well, having lived in both countries. I enjoy teaching students that are travelling to and from Brazil for business or work placements. For these students, they often ask for Conversational Portuguese or English. I also love teaching children, as they are so enthusiastic and learn very quickly. It is wonderful to see all the connections they make whilst learning a new language. Although my children were born in England, I taught them to speak fluent Portuguese and they are bilingual.

About the lesson

My Portuguese and English lessons are tailored according to the students' needs and interests. Every student is different. For example, if a student is learning Portuguese before travelling to Brazil, for work or studies, I choose topics relevant to their area of work, or the region to which they will be travelling. For younger children, I like to find out what things they like, such as animals and I introduce animal puppets to the lessons. When I teach English I use the same approach. It helps to make the lessons fun, engaging and interactive. Most of my lessons are online, but, if a student lives near me, they can come to my house. My preferred method of teaching is through visual resources. I therefore avoid using translation. Using share screen in the platform I use is very useful. The student is very much in control to feel free to guide me in which areas they need to study. I am confident I can help you to succeed in your learning journey. Thank you for your interest. Emilia

Perfect! What a great first month of lessons with Emilia this has been! Emilia is incredibly dedicated, professional, thorough but also fun and flexible. Emilia is always super prepared using various exercises and props which also makes her lessons very suitable for small kids - I’m now starting to get mine involved as well.
