About Chandana

Last four years, I had been teaching in an international sixth form college where I taught A level, foundation and GCSE courses. It has been an amazing experience to deliver lessons to the students' different nationalities, levels, and needs. I have also taught undergraduates in India in 2007. Due to some family reasons, I moved to Cardiff recently and I want to return to teaching. My teaching experience has given me the job satisfaction that I was looking for. I believe, it is rewarding to pursue the young minds in the schools to build their future.

About the lesson

I apply varieties of aspects in my lessons to develop learners’ skills based on their ability and progress. My teaching method follows review of previous topic and link with the current topic and often with real life examples. I emphasise on the non-linguistic representations such as graphs, models or images as visualisation helps in long-term memory compared to the text-heavy materials. I encourage the learners to use varieties of resources to seek information beyond the textbook. Moreover, I address the subject specific mathematics and English needs of learners. I conduct regular progress tests and often with self-assessment to motivate the students for self-actualisation. As a science teacher, I emphasise on the ‘Generating and Testing Hypotheses’. My Learners are often asked to carry out web search and write an essay on contemporary science topics which helps to grow confidence in academic writing for higher education.
