About Arlene
I was certified to teach K through eighth grade in the state of Louisiana. I have administered academic testing for Sylvan Learning Center in order to place students in the correct position to build on the knowledge they already possess. In this way students are not overwhelmed and confidence is built.

I have 10 years experience in teaching elementary grades and 10 years experience in tutoring K through 8th grade. I worked for Sylvan Learning Center while I was getting my degree in dietetics. I understand how to teach the mechanics of reading to elementary children, and I also understand the importance of comprehending the material that is read. I can assess children to know what areas need to be strengthened in both reading and math. I have experience teaching elementary grammar and writing. I can also offer homework support to explain concepts in most elementary subjects. I can assist students in knowing how to go about organizing material to study for a test. I can also give test taking strategies. I start out introducing the material, giving guided practice, giving independent practice until mastery of the subject is shown, then administer testing on different days to make sure the concept is mastered.
