I have a Batchelor of Education degree in English from King Alfred's college Winchester, ( now the University of Winchester).
I coach pupils with a range of needs and motivate children to learn using a variety of activities. Having an awareness of individual children’s interests, I plan purposeful and challenging lessons, which are differentiated accordingly.
I am used to liaising with outside agencies, such as occupational and speech therapists to implement specific individualised learning programmes. I am experienced in the use of a range of systems designed to support learning, such as Cued Articulation, Makaton, PECs, objects of reference, T.E.A.C.H, Symwriter and Precision Teaching.
As a specialist English teacher working with children with speech and language and other learning difficulties I am familiar with a range of interventions for supporting children’s communication and learning such as the Colourful Semantics Approach, oral to written Narrative, Colour Coded Phonics, School Start, Fun with Narrative and Black Sheep Press resources.
Effective use of questioning with pupils, in groups or as individuals, enables them to reflect on what has been learned and to understand how they are learning. Plenary sessions are crucially important to this process and can be used to plan next steps in learning with the children. In my experience, children thrive on this and often rise to or exceed those expectations, taking pride in their achievements and success.
